Poverty in Sheffield Today - 29 November

29 November at 10:00–12:30pm

Victoria Hall Methodist Church, Norfolk Street, Sheffield S1 2JB, Sheffield

A meeting organised by Church Action on Poverty in Sheffield, the People’s Assembly for Sheffield and Sheffield Equality Group. To be opened by the Rt Revd Steven Croft, Bishop of Sheffield.

It will include the first public presentation of the results of the LISTEN UP! PROJECT , which involved in-depth interviews with people facing poverty in the Sheffield area. Information from these interviews is both disturbing and challenging.

Other talks include:

  • Food banks: Why do we need them and how can we dispense with them?
  • “The impact of benefit sanctions in Sheffield” by Tim Arnold, author of the Sheffield Citizens Advice report
  • “Sheffield Fairness Commission: Progress in implementation” by Professor Alan Walker, Commission Chair

The meeting will offer ample opportunities for contributions from the floor. It is hoped that all those concerned with poverty problems in the Sheffield area will come to this meeting and join us in looking for a better way forward.

The event is being advertised on facebook here:
