Part 7: Grassroots Policies

In Part 7 of our webinar series we focused on the Commons, and wildlife.

Professor Guy Standing started the talk by trying to help us understand how we redefine progressive politics. 

Guy, is a Professorial Research Associate at SOAS University of London and a founding member and honorary co-president of the Basic Income Earth Network (BIEN), a non-governmental organisation that promotes a basic income for all. He is a member of the Progressive Economy Forum (UK). In 2022 he was asked to join the technical advisory panels for two basic income pilots: a Welsh government initiative for care leavers in Wales and a large-scale experiment in Catalonia organised by the regional government. An acclaimed author, Guy's recent publications include: The Blue Commons: Rescuing the Economy of the Sea (Penguin, 2022); Battling Eight Giants: Basic income Now (Bloomsbury, 2020) and also Basic Income: And How Can We Make It Happen (Penguin, 2017).

Vicki Hird FRES has over 30 years experience of working for the environment, farming, food and justice. Vicki is the Strategic Lead on Agriculture at The Wildlife Trusts. She was the Head of Sustainable Farming for Sustain, the alliance for better food and farming and previously worked at Friends of the Earth War on Want. She has been an expert consultant for many NGOs and been on advisory groups for government. Vicki is the author of: Rebugging the Planet and Perfectly Safe to Eat? The facts on food, and continues to share her knowledge through writing and social media.
