The Road to NDIS
Authors: Simon Duffy and Robbi Williams
This paper explores the NDIS concept as a pathway of decisions, particularly relating to assessment and planning. It draws out learning from the introduction of individualised (self-directed) funding in England which gave rise to many stories of success and frustration, mainly due to the variation in its design across 150 local jurisdictions.
The authors explore the English experience as a valuable source of information for the design of the NDIS in Australia by incorporating those elements that led to advancing people's life chances and avoiding less helpful elements.
Overall, the commentary proposes ten lessons relevant to the design of the NDIS.
